AROMATHERAPY AND THE MIND

"Reality is built out of thought and every thought begins to create reality."- Edgar Cayce

I would like to create a conversation with the "Self" to recognize the shadow and the light, in each thought. What can help me when my thoughts lead to anger, pain, suffering, fear, weakness, isolation, depression, anxiety, and so on? How can I recognize and give release to thought patterns in my mind that debilitate a healthy life? It starts with a deeper understanding of the relationship between the subconscious and conscious mind.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

In the book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, Dr. Joseph Murphy explains the enormity of the subconscious. Your subconscious started your heartbeat, controls the circulation of your blood, regulates your digestion, assimilation, and elimination. Your subconscious mind controls all the vital processes of the body involuntarily and knows the answers to all problems. The subconscious is the storehouse of memories, emotions, and beliefs. It never sleeps or rests. It is always on the job. Whatever thoughts, beliefs, opinions, theories, or dogmas you write, engrave, or impress on your subconscious mind, you shall experience them as the objective manifestation of circumstances, conditions, and events. The subconscious mind does not argue with the conscious mind. It only accepts what has been written upon it. This is your book of life and it is naturally designed to help you in the highest and most balanced way.

THE CONSCIOUS MIND

Voluntary actions, filtering of thoughts, logic, reasoning, direct focus and the ability to imagine that which is not real defines the conscious mind. Thoughts are received by your brain, which is the organ of your conscious reasoning mind. Here they are are given physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual form.

Laws of nature define this as action and reaction, of rest and motion. The impression and the expression must be equal, in order to maintain health and happiness. Unexpressed, negative, destructive thoughts find an outlet in the manifestation of physical, emotional, and mental ailments. The subconscious becomes interrupted from its ability to restore or maintain optimal health by the conscious mind.

BOTANICAL OFFERINGS FOR A HEALTHY MIND

The subconscious and conscious minds are always engaged in an integral dance. When harmony exists in this relationship which is navigated by our thoughts and perceptions, we are empowered on all levels of our existence. If this is difficult or confusing because you are really struggling, don't worry. Be gentle on yourself and surrender. Nature can be the first companion to help guide and support various transitions or motivations to change thought patterns. If you are headed to a dark place, a stuck place, or even a physical discomfort - talk to your subconscious mind. If you don't have a clue what to say then allow plant medicine to assist you. Start by breathing in an essential oil that makes you feel calm. Allow the inhalation and the aroma to integrate. Make an effort to empty your thoughts. This is an opportunity to reset and reprogram. Take a walk in nature. Sit near a tree, in a field, by a creek, or gaze upon a bouquet of flowers. Before bed, feed your subconscious with thoughts of health, peace, abundance, and happiness. My favorite Moss Botanicals blends for helping with this process are Ceremony, Let Go, Calm Heart, and Ojai. Herbs such as Lemon Balm (Mellssa officinalis), Gota Kola (Centella asiatica), and White Sage (Salvia apiana) can be infused as a tea or made into a foot bath. Individual or combined essential oils of frankincense (Boswellia carterii), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and neroli (Citrus aurantium) can be placed on a cotton ball to smell throughout the day or put in a diffuser. Moss Botanicals has been making some beautiful flower essences and hydrosols from the garden. These are also powerful and gentle allies. I will be highlighting these plant medicines soon.

*Note: This is not a cure,  a diagnostic, or a substitute for serious medical attention. Aromatherapy, herbs, flower essences and hydrosols are an alternative modality to many forms of healing.  Improper dosages, prolonged usage and not adhering to proper safety data can lead to harmful effects when using essential oils, essential oil blends or herbal remedies. Check for any contraindications before using.
